Healing Yoga

Yoga is an ancient system of purification. The poses allow one to start clearing out old impressions, patterns, and dysfunction from the physiology and the nervous system when practiced regularly and over a long and interrupted period. Energy begins to flow more efficiently through all the bodies: physical, breath, emotional, mental and intuitive. This allows for greater consciousness/awareness, which leads to better health, relationships, creativity and more.

All our classes, along with programs offered by our Ayurveda team, can help bring back your natural radiance. We offer chair yoga, yoga for MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and gentle yoga, which is a perfect opportunity for those recovering from injury or surgery. Please always share with your teacher details about your physical condition so he/she can modify poses and guide you toward appropriate moves for you.

Soothing an Aching Back
In research at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), School of Medicine, 21 people age 60 or older started doing yoga twice weekly. The volunteers had rounded upper backs, which can limit normal movement. Yoga reduced their curvatures by 6 percent, increased walking speeds by 8 percent, and improved their reach by 18 percent. Many participants reported that yoga helped their balance, too. The UCLA study, published in the American Journal of Public Health, suggests that yoga increases overall strength and flexibility.

For Anxiety & Depression-
“By reducing perceived stress and anxiety, yoga appears to modulate stress response systems. This, in turn, decreases physiological arousal — for example, reducing heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and easing respiration. There is also evidence that yoga helps increase heart rate variability, an indicator of the body’s ability to respond to stress more flexibly.” – Harvard Health Publications

“Effects of an 8-week meditation program on mood and anxiety in patients with memory loss.”
A paper published by the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine in January 2012 revealed that performing Kirtan Kriya meditation daily for 8 weeks led to increased brain activity in important anatomical areas, as well as an improvement in memory tests. Results showed a large improvement in mood, anxiety, tension and fatigue as well as memory improvement and an emotional boost.
