Our Story

Karma Yoga: Working with right action; not focusing on the fruits. The quality of one’s actions influences a whole sphere of lives, present and future. To be of service.

Karma Yoga began as a place to learn yoga, to practice and delve deep into the Self, to offer an oasis in the desert, a place where your decisions and your statements matter. Karma Yoga has grown since its founding in 2003 to become a veritable community of yoga practitioners at every level – achieving union of mind, body and soul.

Whether you seek a good workout or alignment with a friend who first brought you to class, you’re likely to stay because of the balanced state of health, mind, body and spirit our students achieve from attending our classes, workshops, retreats and trainings. Being a part of the Karma Community is a powerful path toward elevation and higher vibration.

We started with 24 classes a week when we opened in 2003 at the corner of Maple and Lahser Roads in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Now, we offer 50 classes a week (and growing!) with 3,000+ students coming through our studio every month.

Karma Yoga is a comprehensive, holistic yoga studio where classes provide insight and direction for infants, toddlers, tweens and teens, families, older adults and empty-nesters – and everyone in-between. Our core community consists of active men and women, who bring friends, family and others to class. We are a word-of-mouth, organically-growing community.

Founded in 2003 by Katherine Austin Wooley, E-RYT, Karma Yoga prides itself on offering students integrity, authenticity and high-quality yoga instruction. Students of all ages are welcome here, from prenatal to seniors, guided safely by Karma’s staff of well-trained teachers, who collectively bring more than 200 years of experience in studying and living their yoga.

Offering a broad range of classes, programs and merchandise, our Bloomfield Hills, Mich., studio offers some of the most progressive programs in the state, including Michigan’s first Khalsa Way® prenatal yoga class, as well as adult yoga, family yoga, yoga therapy, private yoga, meditation, gong therapy, yoga teacher training and more.
