In 2001, Nancy McCaochan, M.A., E-RYT, left southeastern Ohio and full time college teaching for metro-Detroit to study yoga full time. Since 1995, when she began her practice she’s explored many traditions from Kripalu to Kundalini. However, she considers herself “Krishnamacharya’s child" in that her primary influences have been through the teachings of his lineage - the practices of Iyengar, Ashtanga, Desikachar, and Anusara. In addition to yoga, Nancy practices Vipassana, a type of Buddhist mindfulness meditation, and Shamanism, a healing modality that originated in tribal societies. Her pragmatic approach to teaching integrates her varied influences into a breath-based practice that emphasizes postural integrity, energetic flow, nature imagery, and witness consciousness. In 2008, Nancy published her first book, Like Stanzas in a Poem: Yoga at the Wall (www.yogaatthewall.com), which grew out of her weekly Karma Yoga wall classes.
Besides her regularly scheduled sessions, Nancy conducts workshops and teacher trainings in wall yoga, chakra healing and shamanic journey techniques. She also works privately with students to hone technique, heal physical injuries, and address emotional imbalances. As a result of recent sessions with persons struggling with eating disorders, she has begun to offer yoga-based life coaching. Nancy has 4 grown children and 8 grandchildren.
